Gallery Assist Comments

Gallery Assist Comments [1] (GAC) allows to comment gallery items.

The functionality is not the standard comment function - implemented from the core comments.

GAC uses a simple comment feature.

Features

  • The comment function is different configurable for each GA content type.
  • Allow user settings.
    With this option it is possible to configure the comment function for every gallery.
    Possible options:
    - Allow nothing
    - Allow enable/disable option
    - Allow all settings
  • Configurable comment form:
    - Form position; Above, below, above and below.
    - Nature of the display of the form; No styling, collapsible, collapsed or simple popup.
  • Use extra input formats.
    For different content types can be used different Input formats.
  • Configurable character counter:
    - Count down or count up
    - Count lenght
  • Configurable comment order
    - Date - newest first
    - Date - oldest first
  • Command links for comments with respect to the current user's access permissions:
    - unpublish/publish
    - delete
  • Jump function
    This function allows the jumping to show the bottom comments, and jumping to show the top comments.
  • GAC is fully RTL compatible.
  • Highly themeable.
    GAC comes with 10 templates. Each part of comments are themeable.

Installation

Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) installation.

Copy the GAC module folder to your module directory and then enable the module on the admin modules page.

Uninstallation

An uninstall of the GAC module deletes all comments.

Configuration

Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) configuration.

The GAC has no independent administration area to configure the settings. The configuration of the settings is embedded in the management of GA.

Preparations

Necessary preparation are you create a new input format to use with Gallery Assist Comments (GAC).

Administer input formats

This is an important point to configure GAC.

Create an extra Input format! E. g. "Simple comment" as name.

As filters use only:
- HTML filter
- Line break converter

Configure the HTML filter settings and reduce the Allowed HTML tags to a absolutely needed minimum!

Remember:
The comment function should follow the simple principle.

For different content types can be used different Input formats.

Input formats can not be changed by gallery owners.

Note:
Have anonymous users the permission "post gallery assist comments" and the GAC settings allow "Anonymous commenting", then choose the role "anonymous user" to use the extra filter formats.

Permissions

Permissions make it possible to use Gallery Assist Comments (GAC).

Configure the GAC permissions in Administer -> User management -> Permissions

GAC permissions

  • access gallery assist comments

  • administer gallery assist comments

    This permission relates to the comments of all gallery items.
    A user has this privilege can delete and unpublish/publish all comments of all galleries.

    This permission is not needed to allow users to administer GAC in their galleries.

  • delete any gallery assist comments

    This permission relates to the comments of a single gallery item.
    A gallery owner has this privilege can delete all the comments of his gallery items.

  • delete own gallery assist comments

    A user is not gallery owner:
    He can delete his own comments.

    A user is gallery owner:
    If he has only this privilege can delete only own comments.

  • post gallery assist comments

Content type based

Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) content type based configuration: Configure the GA content type and the GA assigned content types.

Go to Administer -> Settings -> Gallery Assist. Use the Tab Assignments to see the GA content types.
Each content type has a area Gallery Assist Comments (GAC).

Priority of the disable comments function

The content type based setting General settings -> Comment function

disable

has the higher priority than the corresponding gallery based setting. This allows an admin
to overrule this setting by all galleries of this content type.

The gallery settings are preserved in such a case.

Settings switches

With a current website will be switched

Allow user settings

from a allowed status to disabled, then all galleries of the content type works with the GAC content type settings.
In this situation, preserved the settings of the galleries of the content type.
If Allow user settings re-enabled so the galleries to work with their last settings.

Comment function

from enabled status to disabled, then all galleries of the content type can no longer use the comment function. Comments are not displayed.
In this situation, preserved the settings and the comments of the galleries of the content type.
If Comment function re-enabled so the galleries to work with their last settings and display the exist comments.

Gallery based

Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) gallery based configuration: Configure each gallery.

Edit a GA node. In the area Gallery Assist (GA) settings there are the area Gallery Assist Comments (GAC).

According to the configuration of the relevant content type, different options are available to configure the gallery.

Options:

Theming

Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) theming.

GAC comes with 10 templates to modify the display of the comments.

Usage

Copy the needed template files from the module theme folder to the folder of the current theme.

    Allow it to change the button value without using the hook_form_alter().

Body background color

Unpublish

Unpublish and publish Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) comments.

The unpublish and publish function is usable for

  • Gallery owner
  • User with the permission administer gallery assist comments

Legitimate users can unpublish and publish all comments from a gallery item.

Unpublished comments

  • are visible only to the legitimate users
  • are not counted

Delete

Delete a gallery

All comments of the gallery items will be deleted.

Delete a gallery item

All comments from this item will be deleted.

Delete a comment

Please read the informations in the GAC permissions [2] documentation.

Wysiwyg

Hiding WYSIWYG editors in the Gallery Assist Comments (GAC) comment forms.

BUEditor

  • Go to Administer -> Settings -> BUEditor.
  • Edit the eligible editor. E.g. Editor name default.
  • Expand the fieldset Visibility settings.
  • Put this in the textarea Hide the editor for specific textareas:

    edit-comment-body*

Multilingual

Multilingual galleries

If a gallery translated into another language, initially it uses the GAC settings of the source gallery.
Translated galleries can use your own GAC settings.

Multilingual comments

Multilingual galleries with multilingual comments.

Each gallery item shows the comments of all languages. There are no available options to change this.

Permissions

Please read the Permissions [2] information in the rubric Configuration [3].

Limitations

- GAC does not provide a pager for the comments.
- GAC has no administration for the management of the comments.
- IE 6: Confused layout for display.

Troubleshooting

  • Please check the GAC permissions settings.
  • Please check the settings of the GAC configuration option Comment function.
    If enabled?
  • Please check the settings of the GAC configuration option Allow user settings.
    If one of the two "Allowed options" used?
  • The comment form display has no input format information.

    This is not a bug but a functionality.

  • Add comments with simple popup. The popup is transparent.
    Use a color (not transparent) for the body background.
